Principal Scientist, Biomarker Discovery & Development
The Research and Translational Medicine (RTM) department is seeking a Principal Scientist, Biomarker Discovery and Development. This newly created role will be responsible for the execution of biomarker strategies to support clinical programs in I & I indications, such as asthma, COPD, atopic dermatitis, and EOE. Reporting to the Associate Director of Biomarker Discovery & Development, you will collaborate cross-functionally with research, translational medicine, and clinical teams to advance biomarker-driven decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with internal teams and external partners (CROs) to support the execution of biomarker strategies for clinical programs
- Manage day-to-day operations of biomarker strategies for clinical programs, including resourcing and oversight of assay selection, feasibility, troubleshooting, qualification, and clinical sample testing, jointly with the RTM Operations Team
- Analyze and interpret biomarker data, integrating findings with clinical and translational research insights
- Support the design and management of biomarker discovery studies, including but not limited to academic collaborations and ex vivo experiments
- Support the review of clinical study-related documents, including study protocol, lab manual, analysis plan, as well as publications related to biomarker findings
- Stay current with emerging biomarker technologies, regulatory guidelines, and industry best practices to refine biomarker approaches
Ideal Candidate
- PhD with 5 plus years, or MS with 8 plus years of pharmaceutical/biotech industry experience
- Experience in biomarker discovery, validation, and clinical implementation
- Experience in I&I indications in Respiratory such as asthma and COPD preferred
- Hands-on experience with omics technologies (e.g., NGS, proteomics) and biomarker assay development (e.g., flow cytometry, immunoassays, mass spectrometry)
- Proficiency in data analysis tools (e.g., R, Python) to support biomarker discovery and development efforts preferred
- Good understanding of drug development stages and how to design biomarker strategies to support clinical development
- Experience working on cross-functional teams within a biotech/pharmaceutical environment
- Excellent communication, project management, and leadership skills
- Enjoys fast paced environment, flexible, able to manage multiple and competing priorities under tight timelines

- Position requires 10 – 15% travel for regular team meetings including All Hands meetings and other workshops
The anticipated salary range for candidates for this role will be $170,000-$195,000 / year. The final salary offered will depend on several factors, which may include, but is not limited to relevant years of experience, educational background, and geography.
