We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Scientific Communications Director to lead Apogee’s scientific communications and publications. The ideal candidate will have a strong scientific acumen combined with exceptional leadership and project management skills. The Scientific Communications Director will play a crucial role in managing the publication of scientific findings, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely dissemination to relevant stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Publication Strategy: Develop and implement strategies for publishing scientific research findings in reputable journals, conferences, and other relevant platforms to maximize visibility and impact.
- Publication Management: Oversee the end-to-end publication process in collaboration with external consultants, including the draft process, internal review coordination, editing, formatting, and final publication.
- Quality Assurance: Ensure the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of published materials with ethical standards, regulatory guidelines, journal/publisher requirements, copyright laws, and data sharing policies.
- Collaboration: Collaborate with internal and external researchers, scientists, and authors to ensure clear communication and understanding of publication goals, timelines, and requirements.
- Journal Relations: Manage relationships with journal editors, publishers, and relevant stakeholders to facilitate smooth submission and publication processes.
- Research and Analysis: Stay informed about trends in scientific publishing, open access initiatives, publication amplification, and publication metrics to inform decision-making and optimize publication strategies.
- Budget Management: Manage budgets related to publication fees, subscriptions, licensing, and other expenses, optimizing resource allocation for maximum impact.
- Scientific Conference Management: Assist internal stakeholders with conference management activities, including coordination of logistics
Ideal Candidate
- Advanced degree (Ph.D., M.D., Pharm.D., or equivalent)
- Extensive experience in scientific publications management, including knowledge of conference abstract and poster and manuscript submission processes, peer review systems, and publication ethics.
- Strong understanding of scientific research methodologies, data analysis, and interpretation.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a keen eye for detail and accuracy in scientific writing and editing.
- Project management experience, with the ability to guide a diverse team towards common goals.
- Knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements, copyright laws, open access policies, and publication standards (e.g., ICMJE and COPE guidelines).
- Strong organizational, project management, and budgeting skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability and willingness to travel up to 40% including a minimum of 4 times per year for All Hands meetings
The anticipated salary range for candidates for this role will be $225,000-$245,000 / year. The final salary offered will depend on several factors, which may include, but is not limited to relevant years of experience, educational background, and geography.
