Responsibilities And Expectations

We are seeking a visionary Senior Director of Product to lead our Renter Pillar at Apartment List, the next generation ILS and premier rental matchmaker for city dwellers ready to move.  As the Senior Director of Product, you will play a pivotal role in leading the product strategy for the Renter Pillar.  Our ideal next leader brings extensive expertise in spearheading product advancement and harnessing AI and ML innovations, complemented by a deep grasp of user experience. This role calls for both a strong operator as well as strategic leader who champions both our internal team and external marketplace customers. We are looking for a craft leader in product management who elevates the discipline within our organization through deep expertise, mentorship, innovation, and advocacy. Reporting directly to the Chief Product and Technology Officer (CPTO), you will be responsible for driving the vision, roadmap, and delivery of our marketplace products, Apartmentlist.com and Sunny.com.  You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to define and execute product initiatives that enhance the rental experience for both renters and property partners.  And you will work closely with the Product team to foster a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement in order to create a world-class product organization.

  • Lead the Renter product pillar team in developing and executing a compelling product vision and strategy aligned with company goals and market trends, with a deep emphasis on renter demand 
  • Represent the product organization in strong partnership with the head of engineering, head of design, and operations teams to define and deliver the product roadmap and other strategic initiatives
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with other departments, including design, user research, engineering, marketing, and sales, to ensure alignment and successful execution of product initiatives
  • Ensure a culture of strong accountability across the product org, emphasizing transparency in team initiatives and deliverables, with a keen focus on follow-through and meeting commitments
  • Ensure that the product team maintains a customer-centric approach, understanding and addressing customers, users, and business needs
  • Develop and retain top product talent, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and excellence
  • Stay informed about industry trends, competitor products, and emerging technologies to drive innovation and maintain our competitive edge
  • Staying hands-on – effective line management of product managers is critical to success

Key Qualifications & Competencies:

  • Bachelor's degree in related field 
  • 8+ years of experience in product management, with a proven track record of delivering successful products in a fast-paced environment
  • 5+ years of leadership experience, managing and developing high-performing product teams, and serving as a leader of their product craft 
  • Has demonstrated expertise in developing people, fostering a culture of leadership excellence, and driving high performance across teams through skill development and meticulous process implementation
  • Has led a product organization and managed people leaders within a company that focuses on customer-centricity
  • Must possess a strategic mindset and demonstrate leadership in driving the strategic vision for our user experience, including leveraging high judgment to prioritize initiatives effectively
  • Has unapologetically high standards and is detail-oriented with a high degree of accuracy
  • Will create structure out of ambiguity and has a pragmatic “can do” and “make it happen” attitude in a collaborative way
  • Shows a deep understanding of marketplace dynamics, consumer behavior, and product design principles

Here's the Pay Range:

At Apartment List, we carefully consider a variety of factors to determine compensation for each position, including the role, level, and work. The US base salary range for this position is:

  • Zone 1: $246,000 - $272,000 + bonus + equity
  • Zone 2: $228,000 - $263,000 + bonus + equity
  • Zone 3: $209,000 - $246,000 + bonus + equity

This reflects the compensation target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Please note, the compensation details provided do not include benefits and perks that we offer. 

We also rely on market indicators along with considering your work location, job related skills, experience and relevant education and training, to determine compensation that is fair and competitive for you. Apartment List will consider paying compensation near the higher of the range in exceptional circumstances, where candidates have the experience, credentials or expertise that would warrant such consideration. It is always our goal to hire exceptional talent and we would be happy to share more about compensation during the hiring process.
