We are looking for a Modelling Lead to be part of an exciting, Netflix animated feature film! The Modelling Lead is responsible for leading a team of Modelling artists whilst working closely with the Modelling Supervisor to realize their vision ensuring the standard and quality of work produces is consistently high.

What you’ll get to do:

  • Provide leadership and work with production and Artist Management to develop the skills and abilities of all digital artists in their team
  • Drive team reviews and offer creative/technical feedback on reviewed shots
  • Participate in brainstorming and problem solving to create and maintain production pipeline(s) and support AL’s overall technical goals as required
  • Work with the Modelling Supervisor and the production team to prepare bids and pitches as required
  • Ensure conflict is identified early and work with Artist Management to put constructive solutions in place to resolve/diffuse    
  • Create synergies between different work groups to promote efficiency and optimization and to generate innovative ideas and approaches to ‘how we do things’.
  • Interpret 2D designs and translate them into 3D space by utilizing softwares such as Maya, UV Layout, Z- Brush, all while maintaining the original artistic intent
  • Produce highly optimized meshes that can be rendered and displayed efficiently for downstream departments such as Rigging, Layout and Lighting
  • Ensure a high level of communication is maintained with the Modelling Supervisor and production management particularly where situations arise that may compromise the quality or scheduled delivery of material. This may include overseeing and reporting on particular aspects of a project and identifying and implementing solutions as problems arise

What you bring:

  • 7+ years’ Modelling experience in feature animation, VFX and/or animated television
  • Proven leadership experience within feature animation or VFX
  • Proficiency demonstrated through past project work and/or reel/portfolio.
  • Solid understanding of the topological requirements of subdivision surface for both static and deforming models
  • Proficiency in both hard surface and organic, environments, props, creatures
  • Proven technical and visual skills with an understanding of art and design within animation environment.
  • Deep understanding of digital production and overall pipeline methodology

  • Ability to lead, coach, and guide a team and provide constructive feedback
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively within a team environment and build relationships across departments
