Ampliform is a joint venture between Prospect14—a solar development platform with a data-driven approach to scaled project origination and development—and a seasoned team of infrastructure investors and operators with a track record of optimizing merchant coal, gas, and renewable power generation facilities.

 

Ampliform is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Engineering Manager to join our dynamic growing team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in civil and or electrical engineering, proficiency in CAD, and extensive experience in solar project design, engineering, and construction. As the Engineering Manager, you will play a crucial role in overseeing the design and development of solar and battery energy storage projects, assist with performance engineering, electrical engineering as well as pre-construction engineering in support of the in-house EPC management team. This role will be responsible for permit sets and bid-level utility-scale PV system design, production modeling, and estimating support. Overall responsibilities include, but are not limited to technical analysis, system design, interconnection strategy, knowledge building, process creation and standardization, value engineering, cost estimation and optimization, and product evaluation. This role requires a hands-on approach, excellent project management skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.

Key Responsibilities:

Development Design & Engineering:

  • Assist with desktop analysis of new greenfield sites, iterative capacity checks and identifying buildable areas.
  • Utilize CAD software to draft and modify preliminary solar and battery energy storage project designs, layouts and detailed engineering drawings as needed.
  • Analyze data to optimize designs for maximum energy output.
  • Evaluate and make early design decisions involving project ground cover ratio, inverter loading ratio, and optimal amount of grading.
  • Work with Engineering vendors to develop 30%, 60% and 90% plan sets optimized for civil, electrical, and structural disciplines.
  • Research and document regional specific requirements (permits, codes, ordinances, environmental constraints, etc.) and ensure designs comply with said requirements, standards, and regulations.

Performance Engineering:

  • Build / Review and optimize energy production models using PVsyst, Helioscope or equivalent modeling solutions to assess the performance and efficiency of solar energy projects.
  • Review and approval of performance modeling conducted by third parties for projects being constructed by EPC team.

Electrical Engineering

  • Design AC and DC electrical single-line diagrams of LV, MV & HV utility scale PV systems.
  • Review development plan set and CD IFR to ensure the electrical portion of PV and storage systems comply with manufacturer, client, state/Twp electrical code and utility interconnection requirements.

EPC Support

  • Develop and manage company standard design specifications in collaboration with the development and Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) teams.
  • Collaborate with the Construction Engineering team to gather and apply lessons learned regarding design optimization, constructability, and bid-level designs.
  • Support the RFQ process for project specific equipment and long lead procurements.
  • Perform site visit inspections at predetermined milestones to promote quality and safety.

General

  • Manage external engineering resources to execute project designs during the development and construction phases.
  • Create a detailed Basis of Design in AutoCAD and Smartsheet / Excel which will serve as the foundation of the down-stream detailed engineering.
  • Develop Design Standards and document Standard Operating Procedures as continuous improvement process.
  • Manage the entire project design lifecycle, from conception to construction.
  • Coordinate with internal teams to align project designs with overall project goals and timelines.
  • Work closely with the development and EPC teams to understand project requirements and incorporate feedback into the design process.
  • Foster effective communication and collaboration across departments.
  • Implement and maintain quality control processes for project designs.
  • Conduct regular reviews and audits to ensure compliance with specifications and standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science or master’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field.
  • 7+ years of combined industry-related and transferable experience
  • Proven experience in solar project design and renewable energy projects.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience with production analysis tools, such as PVSyst.
  • Project management experience with a track record of successful solar utility scale project delivery.
  • Familiarity with industry standards, regulations, and best practices.
  • Ability to manage and coordinate external engineering resources effectively.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects through the development lifecycle.
  • Prior experience ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Strong critical thinking, analysis, and problem-solving skills
  • Effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Self-motivated with the ability to effectively manage competing deadlines or projects.
  • Committed team player with the ability to develop and maintain productive work relationships.
  • Ability to manage the design of multiple complex projects, coordinating the efforts of multiple stakeholders, including vendors, customers, utilities, permitting authorities and professional engineers.
  • Strong NEC & NESC knowledge and exhibited experience in building electrical systems and design, including sizing, and specifying electrical service equipment, transformers, metering equipment, protective relaying, overcurrent devices, cable, conduit, switchboards, and panel boards preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Computer Skills:

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and PVSyst for grid connected PV systems larger than 20MWac.
  • Knowledge of Bluebeam, Civil 3D, and GIS
  • Knowledge of PV Design software such as PVCase, Helioscope, Helios 3D, SunDAT or PV Mega
  • Proficiency in Smartsheet and MS Office Suite applications
