About Amino

Amino has built a modern, user-friendly healthcare navigation app that empowers users to make informed and confident decisions around their healthcare. Our engineering team is small but mighty, and we are searching for a Senior / Staff Platform Engineer to act as a technical lead for the DevOps and Site Reliability disciplines.

We're a startup; you'll wear many hats and have an opportunity to impact the work across the organization. Most immediately, you’ll have an opportunity to work directly with the CTO as well as senior Security and Product leads to define and execute Amino’s 2024 internal platform roadmap.

What you will do

The platform team builds and maintains technology that supports the Availability of Amino’s applications, the Velocity of our development team, and the Security of our overall technology footprint, across our data, data science, application disciplines.

We’ve been around for ten years and have solid fundamentals in all of these areas. We’re excited to continue to evolve our tools and practices to support the next phase of Amino’s growth.

Some examples of big projects you might lead include:

  • Simplify and consolidate our AWS organization architecture and shared tooling
  • Improve Observability and Alerting across entire platform, and help level up our incident response processes (Data as well as Product)
  • Migrating the build, release, and run processes for our containerized services to Fargate
  • Expand and improve our data orchestration tools in AWS (dbt + Dagster)
  • Work with security + risk teams to continue shifting security and vulnerability management leftward, and keep us humming and compliant with HIPAA standards and industry best practices
  • Streamline Access and Data Privacy controls to improve internal developer experience and speed
  • Teach security and infrastructure fundamentals to our product teams

Your skills and experience

If this is you, we believe you'll have a successful engineering career at Amino!

  • You are highly autonomous and can design, scope, and lead platform infrastructure projects from high level guidance of business needs.
  • You’ve lead platform or infrastructure teams for cloud SaaS products – whether as a manager or as a technical lead – and mentored developers with different backgrounds and levels of seniority
  • You have a track record of pragmatic choices (including build vs. buy) that right-size platform infrastructure to business needs
  • You have a solid grasp and appreciation for programming fundamentals
  • You have in-the-weeds experience with Linux server environments, AWS VPC networking, Infrastructure as Code, and container orchestration systems
  • You’ve worked in environments with high standards for information security
  • You have strong problem solving ability; you’re able to challenge assumptions, approach problems creatively, and can evaluate what others have done in similar situations
  • You welcome and can effectively give critical feedback
  • You value the impact of your work for our users as much as the technology itself

The core technologies that Platform Engineers at Amino work with are:

  • Python
  • Terraform
  • Postgres
  • AWS
  • Docker
  • Dagster

You should be very comfortable and opinionated about the best way to build with these, or closely related technologies.

About the Engineering team

We value patience, kindness, and generosity, and we love working in an environment of mutual respect where we are challenged every day. We take time to teach and learn from each other, and practice thorough and thoughtful code reviews to support each other and provide opportunities for knowledge-sharing. We have different backgrounds and levels of expertise, and are unified by our passion for simplifying the complex and making a meaningful impact on the world through our craft. When things go wrong, we look for problems with systems rather than people.

We work on cross-functional teams with product managers and designers to build products from early-stage concepts all the way through to live web products. We work with data engineers to take raw metadata and analyses and turn them into fast, reliable services used by our website and backend products. We ship early and often. We strive for full test coverage to enable us to move quickly and refactor without fear. We make use of continuous integration to automate as much as possible.

OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
