ABOUT THE ROLE

The Health Collaborative Project 

The African Leadership University has partnered with Mastercard Foundation and nine African Universities and the University of Toronto to prepare diverse youth for the meaningful work of transforming health and wellbeing in Africa through contextually-appropriate and sustainable primary healthcare. ALU has representation in the Executive Steering Committee, Pillar Advisory Committee Working group, Communication Working Group and Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Adaption group.

We are seeking a highly motivated and dynamic individual to join our team as an Operations and Communication Associate  for a health project. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating project operations and facilitating effective communication to ensure the smooth implementation of our health initiatives. This role requires a combination of strong organizational skills, excellent communication abilities, and a passion for making a positive impact on community health.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Operations Management:

  • Coordinate all aspects of project operations to ensure efficient implementation of health initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain project work plans, schedules, and budgets in collaboration with the project team.
  • Oversee procurement processes, including sourcing, purchasing, and delivery of project-related materials and supplies.
  • Manage project logistics, including travel arrangements, venue bookings, and equipment setup for project activities.
  • Monitor project progress, identify potential issues, and propose solutions to ensure project objectives are met.
  • Support the development and implementation of project policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Maintain accurate project records and documentation, including financial records, contracts, and reports.
  • Ensure compliance with project requirements, organizational policies, and relevant regulations.

Communication and Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive communication plan to promote project activities and achievements.
  • Create engaging content for project communication materials, including newsletters, reports, and social media posts.
  • Manage the project's online presence, including updating the project website and social media platforms.
  • Coordinate the production and dissemination of communication materials, such as brochures, posters, and presentations.
  • Liaise with project stakeholders, including community members, partners, and government agencies, to foster collaboration and support.
  • Organize and facilitate project meetings, workshops, and events, including preparing agendas, coordinating logistics, and documenting outcomes.
  • Respond to inquiries and requests for information from project stakeholders in a timely and professional manner.
  • Collect and analyze feedback from stakeholders to continuously improve project communication and engagement strategies.
  • An excellent command of excel or google sheet for project management.
  • Marketing experience

Monitoring and Evaluation:

  • Support the development and implementation of project monitoring and evaluation plans.
  • Collect, compile, and analyze project data to track progress and measure the impact of project activities.
  • Prepare regular project reports, including progress reports, financial reports, and donor reports.
  • Ensure that project indicators are tracked effectively and reported accurately.
  • Conduct field visits to project sites to monitor progress, identify challenges, and provide technical support as needed.



REQUIREMENTS

The ideal candidate will have a sharp business mind and a proven ability to strategize and implement high-level program initiatives. As a self-aware leader, you will have a strong talent for project coordination and delegation. Ultimately, you are motivated by the desire to optimise productivity and nurture program success from inception to completion.

Essential:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Health or any health related field, with a strong project management background. A Master’s degree would be an advantage.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in project management, operations, or communications, preferably in the healthcare sector.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines effectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate clearly, professionally and effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing communication strategies and materials.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural team environment.
  • Proficiency in Google Suite, project management tools, graphic design and social media platforms management.
  • Experience working with non-governmental organizations (NGOs) or international development projects is desirable.
  • Familiarity with health-related issues, programs, and stakeholders in Rwanda is an asset.
  • Ability to travel to project sites within and outside of Rwanda as needed.
