Genomics Data Specialist
SDI Integrative Genomics Hub

The SDI Integrative Genomics Hub will develop and provide access to state-of-the-art genomics modalities in support of greater SDI and Altos wide R&D initiatives. The Computational Scientist will work closely with the Hub Director and Altos wide computational biology group to support the development of innovative genomics workflows, integration of novel genomics pipelines into larger operational networks and working groups, and standardization of genomics pipelines to drive efficiency and impact of R&D efforts. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record with working in a multidisciplinary and collaborative environment.

What You Will Achieve

  • Manage, configure, optimize and operate upstream data intake, tracking and processing pipeline for established data analysis platform
  • Manage and operate routine data validation, tracking and analysis pipeline, ensure data integrity and security, and deliver upstream analysis results in a timely manner.
  • Integrate and curate internal and external data sets, to construct robust, comprehensive, and reproducible resources.
  • Maintain awareness of emerging standards and methods in computational biology and applications for novel omics technologies
  • Contribute scientific analyses to complex multi-omics projects, under guidance of senior computational scientists.
  • Support novel development and data analysis requirement for Comp Bio community.
  • Involve in structural and functional genomics platforms development and drive evolution of platforms 
  • Manage and analyze large scale Omics and disparate NGS data sets in both structured and unstructured formats, develop innovative approaches, processes and pipelines for genomic data analysis 

Who You Are:

  • Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
  • Deep understanding and experience with data management including permissions, security, backup, and monitoring.
  • Experience working with cloud computing and storage
  • Demonstrated experience using UNIX/Linux and shell scripting languages and common programming languages (R, Perl or Python).
  • Hands-on experience with pipeline design, development, and administration.
  • In-depth understanding in genomics datasets including transcriptome and epigenome.
  • Hands on experiences in NGS data analysis (i.e. Bulk RNA-Seq and single cell RNA-Seq).
  • Experience working with workflow management system such Nextflow is plus
  • Excellent communication, organizational, record-keeping, planning and time management skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to work within a small team environment that collaborates widely.
