We are looking for a visionary and diligent Head of Engineering to lead our User Interfaces and Experience teams. Initially, this leader will start by overseeing one scrum team (a “two pizza team”) and will be responsible for scaling the team as needed to deliver exceptional front-end user experiences. You will shape and deliver high-quality, scalable front-end applications across web and mobile platforms, driving innovation and ensuring seamless user interactions. Experience building predictive models, such as chatbots, is key for enhancing user engagement and interactivity. Pharmacy or healthcare technology experience is a plus, but not required.

Accelerate Your Career as You

  • Develop and execute the UI/UX technology strategy, setting the roadmap, and driving fast, iterative launches with incremental customer value.
  • Lead the design and development of high-volume, low-latency web and mobile (iOS/Android) applications, focusing on intuitive user interfaces and interactions.
  • Oversee the architecture, development, and deployment of front-end systems and their integration with backend services, cloud infrastructure, and edge devices.
  • Drive innovation in predictive models such as chatbots, enhancing user engagement and experience through advanced technologies.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product, design, customer, and operations, to ensure the delivery of intuitive and impactful user interfaces that meet business and customer needs.
  • Mentor and lead a high-performing team of front-end engineers, fostering innovation, technical excellence, and continuous improvement.
  • Drive best practices for front-end software engineering, emphasizing code quality, performance, scalability, and a user-centered design approach.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements, particularly in healthcare.

A Bit About You

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • 15+ years of experience in software engineering with a focus on building scalable, high-performance front-end systems.
  • Proven track record of 10+ years in engineering leadership, managing and scaling teams responsible for high-traffic, customer-facing web and mobile applications.
  • Expertise in modern front-end frameworks and technologies, such as React, React Native, or similar technologies, with experience integrating predictive models (e.g., chatbots).
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience in fast-paced, high-growth environments, with a focus on innovation and user-centric design.
  • Strategic thinker with a passion for UI/UX, capable of driving front-end innovation in a dynamic, evolving landscape.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience building and scaling performant and high volume mobile applications.
  • Experience building and scaling inventory, supply chain, procurement applications.
  • Strong understanding of pharmacy operations, workflows, and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience with Backend for frontend, API management systems, such as Apigee and GraphQL.
  • Experience in building and scaling healthcare or telemedicine platforms.
  • Advanced certifications or training in pharmacy or healthcare analytics.
  • Experience with Supply Chain, Inventory Management, and Procurement systems.
  • Experience productionizing AI/ML models and building proof of concepts leveraging developing technologies.

Additional Physical Job Requirements

  • Read English, comprehend, and follow simple oral and written instructions.  The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.  Assessing the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of the work assigned.
  • Communicating with others to exchange information.  Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; those activities where detailed or important spoken instructions must be conveyed to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.
  • Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction, and having the ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and making fine discriminations in sound.
  • Frequent repeating motions required to operate a computer that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
  • Sedentary work: Sitting most of the time, exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Walking and standing are required only occasionally.

Salary and Benefits

Salary Range: $176,000 - $220,000

Commission Eligible: No

Equity Eligible: Yes

Travel: Yes - Required up to 15% of the time  

Location Requirement: Employment at Alto is limited to individuals residing in the following states: California, Connecticut, Colorado, Florida, Nevada, Illinois, New York, Kansas, Texas, Maryland, Washington (WA), Missouri, New Jersey, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Wisconsin.
