Who we are:

Alpha Public Schools is a public charter school network of four schools educating approximately 1,900 scholars in east San Jose. Guided by the belief that our students belong in college, we ensure safe, inclusive, and student-centered learning environments to help our students thrive. What sets us apart is the very thing that makes us who we are– our community. Alpha was founded by a group of mothers on the eastside of San Jose who sought better educational opportunities for their students. We maintain a strong connection to our community and engage families in a collaborative approach to offer a holistic education to our students.

A successful Alpha Behavior Intervention Specialist:

The successful Behavior Intervention Specialist believes that ALL students are capable of success. They will be a key contributor to the development of Behavior Intervention Plans for students who have not responded to earlier attempts at behavior intervention. The successful Behavior Intervention Specialist will partner closely with teachers, mental health counselors, school psychologists, school leaders, and the Managing Director of Special Education to provide assessment and Behavior Intervention Plans. Additionally, the Behavior Intervention Specialist will provide training and professional development to help various members of the school community build their behavior expertise.  The Behavior Intervention Specialist may also be involved in crisis level support and creation of safety plans for students with more significant safety concerns.

The Behavior Intervention Specialist is expected to:

  • Design and propose Behavior Intervention Plans, in collaboration and coordination with the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) team. Document the BIP in the special education database system (SEIS).
  • Provide ongoing coaching to teachers, Special Education paraprofessionals, school staff, school leaders, and mental health providers regarding implementation of behavior interventions in all school settings.
  • Plan and conduct student progress meetings for students in general education with available data and information. Coordinate with school staff to develop behavioral goals and objectives.
  • Design and deliver professional development opportunities related to behavior intervention strategies for a range of audiences (school leaders, special education teachers, program specialists, mental health providers, etc.)
  • Support consistent implementation of evidence-based behavior interventions and create resources that support school team members in the implementation of these interventions.
