Alpha Public Schools is a public charter school network of four schools educating approximately 1,900 scholars in east San Jose. Guided by the belief that our students belong in college, we ensure safe, inclusive, and student-centered learning environments to help our students thrive. Alpha was founded by a group of mothers on the eastside of San Jose who sought better educational opportunities for their students. A successful School Psychologist: 

The successful School Psychologist believes that ALL students are capable of success. As a member of a Special Education team that approaches instruction with patience, creativity, and a growth mindset, you will provide evaluative services to students who are referred to special education and to students who require triennial reevaluations.  We seek School Psychologists who are committed to amplifying and celebrating the diverse experiences and cultures of our scholars and their families. The successful School Psychologist engages in regular problem solving and designing supports for students with the special education team. They demonstrate strong communication and relationship building with students, families, and colleagues, and they are committed to continual growth and professional development.

The School Psychologist is expected to:

  • Under the direction and supervision of the Director of Special Education, the School Psychologist will provide evaluative services to students who are referred to special education and to students who require triennial reevaluations
  • Professionally write and present legally defensible psychoeducational reports at IEP meetings, and engage excellent judgment skills to make recommendations on special education eligibility
  • Stay organized in a dynamic and ever-changing environment, with attention to timing and detail, especially in regards to legal timelines for assessments
  • Collaborate with families, special education teachers, and general education teachers to ensure psychoeducational reports present a holistic picture of student needs
  • Serve as the gate-keeper of special education referrals, and make decisions on which intervention path is best for individual students
  • Engage with families around the special education pre-referral and referral process, as well as effectively articulate decisions that are made based on evaluations

You possess…

  • Valid California Pupil Personnel Services Credential with authorization in School Psychology
  • 1-5 years working as a school psychologist (or school psychologist intern/psychological assistant), preferably in urban schools
  • Master’s Degree (MA/MS) in School Psychology or Educational Psychology
  • A strong commitment not only to our students, but also to your own continuous professional development. You possess the ability to receive and implement feedback quickly.
