About Alltrna
Flagship Pioneering has conceived of and created companies such as Moderna Therapeutics (NASDAQ: MRNA), Editas Medicine (NASDAQ: EDIT), Omega Therapeutics (NASDAQ: OMGA), Seres Therapeutics (NASDAQ: MCRB), and Indigo Agriculture. Since its launch in 2000, Flagship has applied its unique hypothesis-driven innovation process to originate and foster more than 100 scientific ventures. In 2021, Flagship Pioneering was ranked 12th globally on Fortune’s “Change the World” list, an annual ranking of companies that have made a positive social and environmental impact through activities that are part of their core business strategies.
Alltrna is the world’s first tRNA platform company to decipher tRNA biology and pioneer tRNA therapeutics to treat thousands of diseases. Alltrna unlocks tRNA biology to correct disease. The company's platform incorporates AI/ML tools to learn the tRNA language and deliver diverse programmable molecules with broad therapeutic potential. Alltrna has an unprecedented opportunity to advance a single tRNA medicine to unify treatment across a wide range of diseases with the same underlying genetic mutation. Alltrna was founded in 2018 by Flagship Pioneering. For more info, visit www.alltrna.com.
About The Role
The Informatics group supports scientific data at Alltrna. Think of it like traditional IT, except that all the systems — from the ELN to LIMS to our HPC to data lakes to instrument reservation software — compose our company’s data mesh. We believe that we can make the science behind drug development more innovative and reproducible if we sublimate lab processes into data products that can be consumed by humans and machines alike. To these ends, we are hiring engineers to build and support the tools that capture, integrate, and expose scientific data. The ideal candidates will have:
- Software engineering skills
- Awareness of the data engineering stack
- Life science domain knowledge
- Excitement about the chance to use your skills to develop tRNA medicines for underserved patient populations
Core Responsibilities
The job responsibilities are listed below. Of these, we expect any candidate to have direct experience in with 50%, passing familiarity with 30%, and an excitement to learn the remaining 20%.
Software engineering, including infrastructure:
- Maintain cloud infrastructure via terraform
- Build RESTful micro services that can be consumed by comp biologists and other services alike
- Code event-based data pipelines for analyzing bench assays
- Manage automated software releases for scientific codebases (both setting up release pipelines and teaching ML scientists how to use them)
- Build simple UIs using your favorite javascript framework
- Create metadata schemas to categorize raw and processed data
- Build security as a first-class design principle
- Up our testing and documentation game with every commit
Big data tools:
- Help computational biologists convert their NGS pipelines to cloud-native, performant, and cost-optimized software
- Build and maintain ETL tooling and pipelines
- Administer academic-style HPC cluster for computational chemistry users
- Dredge and operate data lakes
- Construct semantic layer to integrate and expose data to our data science team
- Write ad hoc queries for dashboards
Scientific support:
- Implement feature store, and other ML Ops work
- Support scientific computing including configuration management
- Help configure data entry systems like ELN (that feed into data pipelines)
- Integrate various SaaS applications that scientists use to record data
- Assist in digitizing some scientific processes using these tools
- Run skill-shares among computational community
Required Qualifications
- Python, including Flask, Pandas, pydantic/attr/dataclasses
- AWS, specifically IAM, load balancers, and Cognito
- Terraform
- RESTful APIs (writing and reading)
- Database modeling + SQL
- Airflow or other ETL engine
- Git workflows, CI/CD, testing, linting
- Containerization
- Writing documentation and user training
- Reading documentation
- Testing. Testing, testing, testing
