Alltrna is a highly dynamic, entrepreneurial and innovation-driven organization seeking to hire an exceptional Lab Automation & Screening leader to join our growing team. The candidate’s career goals, technical skills, and core competencies should be aligned with the description below.

Key Outcomes:

  1. Conceive and execute foundational lab automation and screening strategy in collaboration with the Alltrna leadership team, including driving the selection and implementation of appropriate technologies to support the company’s mission.
  2. Recruit and develop a world-class lab automation team by hiring and developing top talent.
  3. Manage a team of researchers and interface with key stakeholders in the R&D organization to create and maintain automation solutions for current and planned workstreams
  4. Build capabilities for statistics-based assay development (DoE models), robotics and LIMS systems to support modern inventory management and wet lab automation of in vitro, cell-based and NGS assays.
  5. Generate reproducible data with appropriate documentation/reporting and collaborate effectively with cross-functional team members for end-to-end automation of pipeline processes.
  6. Continually cultivate scientific/technical expertise through critical review of the scientific literature, attending external conferences, and developing relationships with key opinion leaders.
  7. Work effectively with a cross-functional biology, technology, and chemistry team to contribute to the vision, strategy, and tactics of the organization.
  8. Willing to work hands-on in the wet lab in the near term and recruit/develop a team in medium-to-long term.

Required Skills:

  1. BS/MS/PhD in the biological sciences/chemistry or engineering, and a 10+ year track-record of scientific excellence in lab automation and screening along with a strong publication and/or patent record.
  2. Proven track-record in establishing lab automation and screening platforms in a biotech/pharma environment.
  3. Expert knowledge in automation of biochemical and cell-based assays including reporter gene and high content screening (HCS) assays.
  4. Experience with various technology solutions to quantify RNA and protein expression such as RT-qPCR, ECL/MSD, HTRF, Illumina NGS platforms
  5. Hands on capabilities in programming/maintaining Biomek i5/i7 series robots and familiarity with a wide range of laboratory instrumentation.
  6. Exposure to Design of Experiments (DoE) models to accelerate assay development, with an emphasis on relevant software (e.g. JMP15) and instrumentation (e.g. Formulatrix Mantis/Tempest).
  7. Expertise in designing and implementing LIMS for inventory management.
  8. Established track record in team building, management and leadership.
  9. Strong scientific communication skills with the ability to clearly explain complex processes and data sets to drive decision-making.

Preferred Skills:

  1. Working knowledge in automating in vitro and NGS assays (e.g. RNA-seq).
  2. Hands on experience working with complex biological models (e.g. iPSC-derived cells, 3D printing) for HTS applications.
  3. Exposure to the special requirements related to managing and screening RNA as a biology reagent and therapeutic modality.
  4. Ability to contribute to modern digital strategy framework with an emphasis on data production and management in collaboration with Computational Biology and Research Informatics partners and leadership.
