About The Role

We are seeking an innovative and highly motivated Principal/Senior Research Associate with expertise in cellular biology and assay development to play a vital role in the Pharmacology team.  You will be joining an innovative and collaborative team of researchers at Alltrna focused on leveraging emerging insights in RNA biology to develop novel classes of human therapeutics. A successful candidate will be comfortable working in, and contributing to, a very dynamic and cross-functional team environment – close collaboration with our sequencing and discovery teams will be essential. The ideal candidate must be independent, goal oriented, have excellent communication and organizational skills and be comfortable developing assays using a range of measurements and techniques.

Core Responsibilities

  • Design, execution and troubleshooting of in vitro culture of established and primary mammalian cell lines, including cancer cell lines and patient derived fibroblasts
  • Engineer cell lines through knock-out, knock-in, or overexpression to optimize expression and support platform and program development
  • Design, develop, optimize and execute in vitro cell-based, phenotypical and biochemical assays such as ELISA, MSD, Luminex, FACS, ELISPOT, etc.
  • Assist in developing novel methods or approaches for the identification and quantification of biomarkers in biological matrices, cells, and nonclinical and clinical samples
  • Contribute to the development, optimization, qualification, validation, and troubleshooting of analytical methods as required
  • Analyze, interpret, and organize data to prepare clearly articulated experimental reports and communicate the results of the projects at internal meetings
  • Work closely with a highly-collaborative, interdisciplinary team and actively contribute to creating, shaping and executing the scientific and strategic vision of the company
  • Time management of multiple projects while keeping excellent records of experimental results

Qualifications and Skills

  • Qualified candidate should have BS/MS in biology or related field of study
  • 6 - 8 years Biotech/Pharma experience in cell and molecular biology and drug discover
  • Extensive experience with mammalian cell culture techniques, including the generation of stable and inducible cell lines
  • Demonstrated technical expertise with characterization and/or differentiation of cells from human and animal tissues
  • Proven hands-on experience with cell-based and ex vivo analytical assays with a variety of readout technologies, such as, but not limited to: ELISA, MSD, Luminex, ELISPOT, flow cytometry, high content imaging, qPCR, and Western analysis
  • Have experience with biological sample handling including biological tissues
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, skilled at conveying technical information in a clear manner
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail, and experience independently generating precise, reliable data and skillfully analyzing the data
  • Knowledge in data spreadsheets (Excel) and GraphPad Prism to generate graphic illustrations of data to support internal reports and regulatory submissions
  • Confident, execution focused, team oriented, with an ability to thrive in an entrepreneurial environment

The preferred candidate will ideally also possess the following skills:

  • Experience with culturing primary hepatocytes
  • Experience with transient and stable (lentiviral, retroviral) transfection, and CRISPR/Cas9
  • Experience processing various tissue and organ from mice
  • Familiarity with automated liquid handlers and molecular biology tools and workflows
  • Experience with Next Generation Sequencing platforms is a plus
