Scientist I/II, Immunology/Cell Biology
Allakos is a clinical stage company focused on developing therapeutic antibodies against inhibitory receptors expressed on key immune cells involved in allergic, inflammatory, and proliferative diseases.
We are seeking a skilled and driven scientist with a proven background in immunology or cell biology. The selected candidate will be responsible for leading, conducting and coordinating key projects focused on the discovery and pre-clinical development of novel inhibitory targets for the treatment of inflammatory diseases.
Essential Duties & Functions:
• Develop, optimize and perform innovative ex vivo/in vitroassays using human and mouse primary immune cells to study the biology and mechanism of action of inhibitory receptors
• Lead development of pre-clinical activities and biomarker discovery for clinical indication assessment
• Design, manage, and coordinate in vivo studies with academic collaborators and CROs
• Collaborate with cross-functionally to drive target validation and therapeutic antibody development
• Maintain an up-to-date understanding of new technologies and relevant scientific advances to support of our research goals
• Develop compelling scientific presentations and reports for internal review meetings, and external collaborators, scientific conferences and peer-reviewed journals
Qualifications & Expertise:
• PhD in cell biology, immunology, pharmacology, molecular biology or a closely related field with 0-3 years of industry experience or a B.S. with a minimum of 6 years of industry experience
• Knowledge of immunological principles in the fields of inflammation and autoimmunity
• Significant laboratory experience is required with the ability perform flow cytometry of primary murine and human cells, ELISA, and MSD
• Expertise in mast cell biology highly preferred, but not mandatory
• Demonstrated track record of scientific achievement (i.e., peer-reviewed publications and/or patent record)
• Ability to think critically and creatively across multiple disciplines and demonstrated experience in assay development, optimization, and troubleshooting
• Team player with a collaborative spirit
• Passion for innovation and desire to lead innovative scientific research
This position is located in San Carlos, CA and requires up to 5% time traveling.
Salary range: $113,000 - $138,000. This range is what Allakos reasonably expects to pay for this position and offers will be informed by experience, qualifications, and skills.
