Position Summary 

The Senior Public Relations and Communications Manager will be responsible for shaping and communicating our message.  This role requires a seasoned communications professional with an understanding of the disinformation and misinformation space, and a track record of successfully managing a demanding public relations function. The ideal candidate will have a proven ability to independently manage multiple external communications and have strong existing relationships with media outlets.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Communication Planning:
    • Develop and execute comprehensive communication strategies to enhance Alethea's reputation and effectively convey its mission and values.
    • Craft messaging that addresses Alethea’s role in combating misinformation, disinformation, and social media manipulation.
  • Media Relations:
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with key media outlets, journalists, and other media participants, collaborating with external partners to amplify the company's message and initiatives.
    • Proactively seek opportunities for positive media coverage and respond effectively to media inquiries.
  • Content Creation:
    • Lead the creation of compelling and impactful content, including press releases, blog posts, reports, whitepapers, and social media content, working closely with the CEO.
    • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including product development, legal, and marketing, to align communication efforts with business objectives.
  • Social Media Management:
    • Oversee the company's social media presence, including Linkedin, ensuring a consistent brand voice and engaging content.
    • Monitor social media providing timely responses and interventions.
  • Crisis Management:
    • Develop and implement crisis communication plans to address potential challenges both internal and externally focused.
    • Act as the primary spokesperson during key events, ensuring consistent and transparent communication.
  • Measurement and Analysis:
    • Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the success of communication efforts.
    • Regularly analyze and report on the impact of PR and communications strategies, making data-driven recommendations for improvement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field. Advanced degree is a plus.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in PR and communications, with a focus on technology or cybersecurity.
  • Proven experience in managing communications during sensitive and high-stakes situations.
  • Strong understanding of misinformation, disinformation, and social media dynamics.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with media outlets, journalists and industry stakeholders.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to align communication efforts with business goals.
  • Experience in crisis communication and issues management.
  • Self-motivated and able to handle multiple, competing priorities.
  • Familiarity with the tech industry, particularly in B Series companies, is highly desirable.

Compensation and Benefits: 

  • Salary and stock options are negotiated based on experience. 
  • Healthcare at the gold-tier level, dental, and vision is fully funded by the employer. 50% of dependent coverage is provided by the employer.
  • Unlimited vacation, sick leave, including office closure between Christmas and New Year’s, and extended holidays at Thanksgiving and the 4th of July.
  • Employer sponsored 401k with a 3% match.
  • Hybrid work environment, with 3 days per week required in office in Washington, D.C or New York.
