POSITION OVERVIEW

As a Manager of Software Engineering, you will manage a team of full-stack developers that work on all server-side aspects of smart home security. Our mandate is very broad and includes but not limited to providing smart home functionality, processing user events, provisioning equipment, testing automation and integrating a wide and diverse set of devices with the Alarm.com connected ecosystem. Our software development includes working on backend services, websites, and database design that make up our whole ecosystem.

You will have the opportunity to manage projects that span a variety of technical areas while also managing a team of 15-20 software engineers, provide career mentorship to the developers on your team, staff projects, oversee project timelines, and generate work for your team. Typical projects will involve diverse technologies. You’ll be able to work across various technical areas using the latest technologies and Agile development methods. Strong multi-tasking skills, a can-do attitude and the ability to self-learn are must-have attributes.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, a related field or equivalent work experience
  • 12+ years of professional software development experience
  • 5+ years of professional experience managing and mentoring a team of developers
  • Good knowledge of object-oriented programming skills; C# a plus
  • Knowledge of database design and development
  • Knowledge of networking concepts, principles, and technologies
  • Experience working with physical systems
  • Experience developing scalable service-oriented architectures
  • Ability to communicate effectively with engineers and non-engineers alike
  • Experience hiring, developing, and managing a diverse and talented team of engineers
  • Proven track record delivering large-scale, cross-functional projects on time and in a high-quality manner, exploring technical feasibility and prioritization tradeoffs as well as process improvements along the way
