Job Description:

The Staff Accountant is responsible for a wide range of accounting related activities. Successful candidates should have the desire to take the initiative and consider themselves to be team players with good communication and problem-solving skills. Additionally, one should pay good attention to detail and enjoy meeting deadlines in a collaborative environment. The ideal candidate will have 3+ years of accounting experience, specifically within a biotech startup environment. You will be responsible for managing day-to-day AP/AR transactions, ensuring accurate and timely processing, and assisting with month-end closing and financial reporting.

Responsibilities:

  • Accounts Payable: Review, analyze, and record each AP invoice by line into the system, including two-way and three-way matching.
  • Accounts Receivable: Review, analyze, and record each AR invoice by line, ensuring accuracy in customer billings and following up on overdue accounts.
  • Bank & Credit Card Reconciliation: Prepare monthly bank and credit card reconciliations.
  • Journal Entries: Prepare month-end journal entries, including but not limited to accruals, amortizations, and adjusting journal entries.
  • Payments: Initiate ACH and wire payments, ensuring timely settlement of obligations.
  • Use Tax: Accrue use tax when necessary and ensure compliance with tax regulations.
  • Check Deposits: Prepare and deposit checks into the bank, ensuring accurate posting.
  • Invoice Review: Responsible for the correct review and accounting codification of invoices.
  • AP Reconciliation: Reconcile AP statements on a weekly and monthly basis to ensure accuracy.
  • Account Reconciliation: Prepare account reconciliation schedules and analytical reports for various accounts, providing detailed analysis.
  • Issue Resolution: Research and resolve accounting issues promptly, ensuring accuracy and compliance with policies.
  • Financial Approvals: Ensure that all financial transactions are conducted and approved in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Customer Service: Provide exceptional customer service to both internal and external customers, ensuring smooth AP/AR processes.
  • Other Duties: Perform other accounting duties as assigned or requested by management.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in Accounts Payable/Receivable or general accounting, preferably within a biotech startup or similar fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in accounting software, NetSuite and Microsoft Excel strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with financial controls and regulatory compliance
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with vendors, customers, and team members.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively in a fast-moving startup environment.
  • Knowledge of cash flow management and financial reporting processes.
  • This position is expected to come onsite 5 days a week

The base salary range for this full-time position is $90,000 - $100,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by work location, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. The ranges displayed on each job posting reflect the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries but are subject to change if the leveling of the role is adjusted.
