The Essence of this Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Legal Counsel focusing on Data & Privacy to join our dynamic legal team in the technology industry to support Affinidi’s international operations. The ideal candidate will possess a well-rounded background in privacy, and regulatory affairs with a focus on technology-related matters. This role involves handling a variety of legal matters, including data best practice, regulatory compliance, and data related agreements.
We are looking for a Senior Legal Counsel with the following attributes:
- Business Acumen - You are in the know on current business practices/trends and have a good awareness of how strategies work in the marketplace.
- Critical Thinking - You are able to skilfully conceptualise, apply, analyse and evaluate information gathered from observation, experience or communication and use it as a guide to action.
- Negotiation skills – You can skilfully negotiate for win-win conclusions and gain trust of parties involved.
- Presenting to others – You are effective in a variety of presentation settings, with different groups of audience and about different topics, even controversial ones. You can change presentation tactics midstream when something isn’t working.
- Stakeholder Management – You are able to build and maintain good relationships with stakeholders, including your colleagues and clients.
What You’ll Do
You’ll become knowledgeable about our technology, products and be involved in helping us build world leading data practices, communicating the vision of Affinidi as it changes and evolves.
You will:
- Support the General Counsel in formulating the data strategy for Affinidi’s business and operations.
- Lead Affinidi’s data strategy (including data protection, privacy, and cybersecurity) cross-functionally
- Develop, implement and review data privacy policies and programmes to ensure we are adhering to data regulations globally.
- Provide privacy counselling across the company to support the growth and development of the business.
- Work closely with the Product and Engineering teams on privacy by design, privacy impact assessments, and other supporting documentation.
- Coordinate international data flows for the broader Affinidi business.
- Engage in strategic data initiatives, with potential involvement in projects for the EU, US, and other regions.
- Stay abreast of relevant regulations impacting the technology industry and ensure compliance.
- Play a part in developing Affinidi’s approach to public policy
You should apply if you:
- 8+ years of legal experience in tech or background in TMT, regulatory and privacy law (PDPA, GDPR).
- Able to identify risks, formulate practical solutions in areas where there may not be precedents
- Are passionate about working in a start-up environment and love to problem solve and come up with creative ideas to solve customer challenges.
- Possess a growth mindset with a strong bias for action and are able to proactively execute tasks and have a structured working style.
- Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Strong business acumen with the ability to align legal advice with organizational goals.
- Adaptable to a fast-paced and evolving technology environment.
Good to have:
- Strong understanding of the technology industry, including regulatory frameworks.
