Position summary

Affinia Therapeutics is seeking an In Vivo Research Associate to join our Preclinical Research team.  You will be part of a team focused on performing preclinical-stage studies that are essential in supporting our next-generation gene therapy research.  Reporting to the Director of In Vivo Studies, you will play a critical role in supporting multiple basic and complex in-life experiments.  Working both independently and collaboratively across teams to execute the studies will be an important aspect of the position. 

This position is located at our state-of-the-art facility, in Waltham, MA

Primary Responsibilities

  • Assist with in-vivo procedure setup and documentation preparation
  • Collect biological samples (blood, tissue) and perform gross assessments at necropsy
  • Administer test articles via multiple routes of administration (IV, RO, IP, SC) and monitor their effects
  • Provide pre and post-operative care in rodents to ensure proper analgesia and pain management
  • Working alongside contract technicians, ensure flawless animal care and welfare is conducted throughout the research studies
  • Maintain detailed records of experimental procedures and results
  • Generate and report data obtained from all in-vivo procedures
  • Review and adhere to all company standards, IACUC-approved SOPs and required safety procedures
  • May be required to perform other related duties as required and/or assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be able to work in a laboratory setting with direct exposure to/handling of laboratory animals
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in animal research and husbandry, specifically working with mouse models
  • Proficient in multiple routes of administrations (IV-tail vein, SC, IP, RO)
  • Highly detailed and excellent record keeping, adhering to GLP-like standards
  • Ability to work independently on repetitive tasks quickly and efficiently
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills
  • Must be flexible and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S./B.Sc.) in animal or life sciences related scientific area
  • AALAS Certification
  • Experience with cloud-based Benchling platform and Excel for maintaining records and data analysis
  • Previous experience working with multiple disease models and understanding of animal model characterization
