The Opportunity
Aether has a unique opportunity to deploy its enzyme engineering technology more quickly than any other company in history, at a greater scale, and for ultra-high impact problems that can save human lives. Therefore it’s incumbent on us to not just ramp the productivity of our current platform, but expand its capabilities and deploy the next generation of our technology.
Aether is looking for a highly ambitious, technically accomplished and hands-on individual to join the company and spearhead the development and expansion of Aether’s platform and platform team. This role will report directly to the CEO and lead all improvements and productionisation of the existing technology platform, expanding its capabilities, and designing/deploying next generation technology.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and oversee the execution of a platform development roadmap, integrating product needs to add new capabilities over time while ramping platform capability and ensuring the production of high quality data
- Expand and develop the platform team (lab engineering, lab automation, lab operations, software, lab analytics and biology) to meet objectives, in particular lab operation and capacity planning in the short term
- Work closely with the product teams to ensure timely and high quality execution of product goals, as well as roadmapping new capabilities needed by the product teams
- Be a thought partner to the CEO in defining technological strategy in order to execute on the overall vision
- Support the CEO in identifying and pursuing new technologies that have strong synergy with Aether’s long term vision
- Wear multiple hats as Aether grows into the category-defining synthetic biology company of the 21st century
Requirements:
- Experience managing hardware and software teams within biology or chemistry
- Hands-on hardware experience
- Demonstrated exceptional leadership in scaling engineering and/or operations teams of 20-100+
- Demonstrated exceptional output as an engineer solving complex technical problems
- Experience managing and optimizing output of engineering teams involving both custom hardware/robotics and data generation/signal processing
- Clear communication skills with demonstrated ability to synthesize complex technical information into understandable formats for interdisciplinary teams
- Willing to roll up their sleeves and get things done at an early-stage startup
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and a commitment to supporting colleague's career growth and learning
Nice-to-have experience:
- Engineering experience involving custom hardware/robotics and data generation/signal processing in the context of biology
- Experience managing the reorganization of teams within an interdisciplinary work environment
- Machine learning experience
- Semiconductor experience
