The Role

R&D Operations (‘R&D Ops’) plays a key role at Addepar by coordinating, supporting, and optimizing how teams work within the R&D organization. Our mission is to operationalize standards for the efficient execution of Initiative Management, simplify the process for how work gets into the R&D Planning pipeline to lay the path for objectives and key results fulfillment, provide guidance and governance on standard processes for teams through Standards & Processes, and surface R&D data in Analysis and Reporting. The combination of these things drive us toward our goal of reduced execution risk, and an improved focus on the way we work together to achieve Addepar’s goals.

Addepar is seeking a creative, collaborative, business-minded leader for our R&D Ops team. This position requires an influential leader who can deliver in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

You’ll bring your program management expertise to drive a portfolio of critical R&D initiatives, focusing on communication, delivery efficiency, risk mitigation and resolution. You’ll develop a high-performing team, and partner closely with Engineering leaders and others across Addepar to achieve our goals. As a member of a growing company, you will have the opportunity to shape and further refine your role commensurate with the priorities of the organization and the company.

Addepar takes a market-based approach to pay. A successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on the role, job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target base salary for roles in Colorado, California, and New York.

The current range for this role is $163,000 - $255,000 + bonus + equity + benefits.

What You’ll Do

  • Drive a prioritized portfolio of R&D Initiatives, and lead a team of Technical Program Managers, supporting their delivery and development, in line with our mission and vision.
  • Facilitate R&D’s quarterly planning process, working closely with Product Managers and Product Owners to support cross-team discussions and coordinate leadership-level updates.
  • Partner with Addepar’s Head of Strategic Initiatives to ensure continuous connectivity of R&D with top-line Strategic Initiatives.
  • Influence through building positive partnerships with senior leaders in Product & Engineering, understanding their business priorities, and ensuring risks are well communicated and understood.
  • Own and refine the standards and foundational information architecture that improve how we work in R&D, including inventories of critical information, Initiative Management standards, and guidance for effective usage of Jira & Confluence.
  • Model professionalism and hold your team accountable for upholding our high standards of quality in all key outcomes in the initiative lifecycle, from initiative development through delivery and retrospectives.
  • Establish a metrics framework to support more informed decision making in R&D, such as progress on initiatives and objectives and key results, measures of velocity, and indicators of risk.
  • Select, and maintain the configuration of R&D-focused tools that support our planning and initiative management, in collaboration with IT and key R&D leaders.
  • Demonstrate strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Define, structure and plan work independently.

Who You Are

  • 10+ years experience driving technical, complex initiatives & projects from initiation to completion, preferably in FinTech, Technology, or Financial Services industries.
  • 5+ years of people management experience. Experience leading global teams preferred.
  • A natural builder of strong relationships and trust, you use your internal network to deliver results; ability to influence executive leaders across functional teams.
  • Proactive and able to adapt quickly to change and evolve with the organization, be comfortable with ambiguity, and have a risk-management mentality. You surface risks and issues early, and resolve disagreements without adversely affecting relationships.
  • Passionate about mentoring and developing others through your leadership style and presence, whether they’re in your team or extended team members.
  • Proven track record of organizing information to enable quick, data-driven decision-making and you mentor others to do the same. Successful in planning, operational management, and leading multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Strong project management skills and ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex information to diverse audiences.
  • Others would describe you as an objective culture carrier with integrity and humility.
  • Experience leading remote and geographically distributed team members.
