Since the non-profit’s founding, the organization and its partners in advertising, media, marketing and tech have been behind some of the country’s most iconic social impact campaigns – Smokey Bear, A Mind Is a Terrible Thing to Waste, Love Has No Labels, Tear the Paper Ceiling and many more. With a current focus on mental health, gun violence prevention, the opioid epidemic, skill-based hiring and other critical issues, the Ad Council’s national campaigns encompass advertising and media content, ground game and community efforts, trusted messenger and influencer engagement, and employer programs, among other innovative strategies to move the needle on the most important issues of the day.
Job summary:
The Brand and Communications Contractor is a vital five-month role that will project manage key strategic thought leadership and events opportunities. This contract position requires a dynamic individual capable of supporting conversations with key partners, vetting brand partnership opportunities, project managing our presence at major industry events, crafting compelling narratives, and positioning our executives as leading voices on social impact. You will spearhead efforts to showcase our campaigns and initiatives on global stages, from Davos to POSSIBLE to Cannes Lions. You will also help us ensure brand narrative consistency across all touchpoints.
Contract details:
This is a contract employee role. This means that, while the position is at all times one of “at will employment”, the Ad Council anticipates at present that the employment length would be approximately 5 months.
Depending on experience, the compensation for this position is $8,000 – $9,000 monthly, paid semi-monthly. Contract employees will be eligible to participate in limited benefits and paid time off.
While this position is remote and on a contract basis, due to the nature of the role, we are prioritizing applicants who live within close proximity to NYC.
What you’ll do:
- Thought leadership:
- Lead the planning and execution of key thought leadership events, ensuring they align with overall organizational goals.
- Coordinate cross-functionally to develop events strategies that amplify brand messaging and drive engagement with our target audiences.
- Develop and refine talking points, presentations, and materials for brand panels and conferences, tailoring messages that resonate with each event's focus and audience.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure we’re meaningfully extending our relationships with partners in a compelling, on-brand way at key industry events.
- Collaborate within the broader Brand team to align thought leadership activities with broader strategic goals, enhancing the Ad Council's visibility and impact.
- Assist with ad hoc thought leadership projects through Ad Council Research Institute.
- Event programming:
- Work closely with our events team on all Ad Council-owned events.
- Support and collaborate on partner-owned events promoting the Ad Council brand.
- Partner cross-functionally to secure speaking engagements and key partnerships for key industry events like CES, SXSW, POSSIBLE, and Cannes Lions
- Support with tactical needs for our fundraising event, The Annual Dinner, as needed
What you’ll bring:
- 10+ years in journalism, corporate communications, or a similar field, with a proven track record of creating impactful, written communications.
- Demonstrated experience in managing thought leadership initiatives, including speaker placements, content creation for high-profile events, and executive messaging.
- Exceptional writing, editing, and presentation skills, capable of crafting messages that engage and inspire a variety of audiences.
- Strong organizational and project management abilities, comfortable working under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
