Acumen is looking for a specialist in Executive Comms with 10 – 15 years of experience to partner with the Founder and CEO of Acumen. This candidate lives in New York City and is available to be present in the office 3 days a week for our hybrid work in the office / work at home model.

About the role
The role will be responsible for partnering with Acumen’s Founder and CEO, and coordinating with the Office of the CEO and our Communications team to support her communications needs. Accountabilities include:

  • Collaborate with CEO and the Chief of Marketing and Communications to develop a coherent communications strategy for the Office of the CEO that is aligned with brand, marketing, and fundraising goals.
  • Build and maintain relations with podcasters, journalists, and media experts who will help drive visibility and credibility for our work. 
  • Partner with CEO and Chief Marketing and Communications to execute press releases, speeches, op-eds, presentations, keynotes, and videos.
  • Brief and prepare the CEO for speaking engagements and appearances. Who is the audience? What do they care about? What is our POV?
  • Keep the entire Office of The CEO and the Communications team coordinated and organized in our approach, appearances, publications.
  • Manage inbound media requests and liaise with journalists and producers. 
  • Own and execute social media campaigns on the CEO’s channels:
    • Define a strategic approach to social media campaign across multiple channels
    • Identify influential voices and bridge-builders. Who has audiences we might wish to speak to? How do we engage them? How best can we bring our message to their media channels?
    • Execute the approach (yes, you will be posting on the CEO’s channels)

Skills and Qualifications

  • 10 – 15 years of experience in Communications
  • Experience working as a speech and byline writer for C-level executive or political leader for major international events and high-profile media and speaking engagements
  • Ability to develop a communications strategy and plan for the Office of the CEO. Ability to help the stakeholders focus on their shared agreements
  • Experience managing media and journalists
  • Excellent writing, editing, and narrative development with an ability to craft compelling story arcs and adapt messaging and format to different audiences
  • Ability to “break through the noise” in the evolving landscape of media channels and cultural conversations, with an eye for identifying significant, new opportunities
  • Excellent project and stakeholder management skills. The Office of the CEO is a hub of multiple stakeholders and conflicting priorities. This role is about organizing the chaos, choosing a coherent path forward, and gaining agreement
  • Negotiation skills…a point of view, an ability to prioritize, an ability to communicate a “no” with grace, an ability to make requests
  • Presentation design
  • An ability to handle confidential matters and information with discretion
  • Self-reflective and aligned with Acumen values
  • Permanent work authorization in the US.
