The Digital Strategist is a member of the Communications Department’s efforts to ensure top-notch strategic communications to advance advocacy goals of the ACLU of Northern California (ACLU-NC) aimed at maximizing our impact and enhancing the protection of civil liberties and civil rights.
Our work is guided by the principles of freedom, equality, and justice enumerated in the Constitution. However, we know that because of historic and systemic racism and other forms of oppression, these principles are not equitably applied to all. In an ideal world, everyone would have equal access to justice and equal protection under the law. Unfortunately, neither our world nor our country is ideal. Our work involves hard subject matters that can be emotionally draining for some people. Ideal candidates will understand that as a mission driven organization; we strive to make the world a better place knowing that the road is long and hard. At the same time, we understand the importance of self-care, and do our best to reflect that in our practices and values.
The Digital Strategist is a passionate storyteller who will lead and execute digital strategy development, and marketing and branding strategies as a key member of the Communications Department. Their work will contribute in specific and comprehensive ways that includes managing all website platforms; planning and directing social media content and strategy; producing email blasts; facilitating data analysis; procuring graphic and video production; trouble shooting and tech support; networking and project management. The Digital Strategist will lead this work, but will have the support of consultants and other staff members.
In partnership with members of the Communications department, the Digital Strategist will advance the work of ACLU NorCal to amplify the goals and achievements of our litigation, organizing, and development programs. This position is one that will ensure all that our outward facing communications reflects our values and maintains an engaging and vibrant presence. They will also liaison with counterparts at Cal Action and the ACLU national office.

About the Organization
The ACLU of Northern California is an affiliate of the American Civil Liberties Union, a nationwide, non-profit, non-partisan organization dedicated to the defense and expansion of civil liberties and civil rights. Due to COVID19 shelter in place restrictions this position will be temporarily based from your home office in California. The ACLU NorCal physical offices are expected to re-open in October and at this time we are beginning to transition back to in person work from our regional offices.

- At least 5 years experience with digital organizing, strategy, and managing and planning for digital platforms.
- Professional experience using CRM technology, Google Analytics, and social media analytics trackers.
- Proficiency with Social Media advertising and graphic design.
- Experience with issue-based campaigning, brand, and digital organizing strategy.
- Strong writing and copy-editing skills especially for action emails and social media messaging.
