$63,960 -$67,478, commensurate with experience and qualifications

The Organizer for Volunteer Engagement undertakes a wide range of activities—organizing, and volunteer education, training, and engagement—to further the NYCLU’s mission and strategic priorities, and as part of the NYCLU’s interdisciplinary approach to policy advocacy and culture change.
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The Organizer for Volunteer Engagement:
- In coordination and consultation with the Field Organizing Department and the NYCLU’s Regional offices, conceptualizes and implements a wide range of volunteer engagement activities on the local and state level to advance and defend civil liberties and civil rights.
- Utilizes a wide array of tactics including in-person and virtual outreach, canvassing, tabling, digital organizing, event planning and coordination, hosting volunteer forums, and organizing to build volunteer base and organizational power on a wide range of civil liberties and civil rights issues.
- Facilitates implementation of a Constituent Relationship Management (CRM) tool and regularly updates CRM w/volunteer and community contacts
- Develops expertise on the NYCLU’s digital communication, organizing and relational organizing tools, including emails, VAN, and SMS and P2P texting tools.
- Develops and stewards strong relationships with key stakeholders and allies including statewide and local social justice organizations, service providers, educational institutions, organized labor, faith groups, and elected officials, in collaboration with the Director of Field Organizing and/or their designee, in order to advance the NYCLU’s advocacy agenda.
- Issue-spots and identifies opportunities to engage, educate, and mobilize volunteers to further the NYCLU’s mission and its local and state level priorities.
- Recruits, trains, engages, and mobilizes a diverse network of members, supporters, and volunteers, and identifies volunteers to develop as volunteer leaders.
- Assists organizers and Regional offices in mobilizing volunteers and supporters for public education events, presentations, workshops and panel discussions, and lobbying.
- Convenes statewide network of volunteers on a regular basis in various settings.
- Collaborates and communicates with other NYCLU departments and Regional offices as needed to achieve campaign success via volunteer mobilization and coordination with community partners.
- Centers and empowers directly impacted people and marginalized communities in local and state level organizing plans.
- Actively supports the NYCLU’s internal and external commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- At least four years of experience in mobilizing, organizing, training, and engaging volunteers.
- Excellent engagement skills and the ability to communicate and relate to persons from a diversity of backgrounds
- Excellent research skills
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Detail oriented.
- Tech savvy and familiar with various digital tools used in organizing and volunteer engagement.
- Thrive in a collaborative team environment.
- Strong commitment to civil rights and civil liberties
- Ability to manage time and tasks independently and under pressure
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines
- Experience using CRM systems and managing and manipulating data.
- Driver’s license and willingness to travel within New York State
