ABOUT THE JOB
The ACLU seeks applicants for a full-time position of Legal Administrative Assistant in the Women’s Rights Project of the ACLU’s National office in New York, NY.
Since its founding by Ruth Bader Ginsburg in 1972, the ACLU’s Women’s Rights Project has been a trailblazer in fighting for gender equity under law. We engage in systemic legal reform to ensure that everyone has the freedom to live, work, and learn free from stereotypes, harassment, and violence based on sex. Our recent work includes fighting the military’s ban on women in combat, challenging employment rules that penalize workers for their pregnancies or push them out of the paid workforce altogether, and winning a historic settlement against Facebook for targeting ads for jobs, housing, and credit only at men.
Reporting to the Project Director the Legal Administrative Assistant will be responsible for providing administrative support to the legal project.
Handle general administrative duties for the Project including processing invoices, tracking expenses and case costs, preparing expense reports, ordering supplies, etc.
Type, prepare, proofread and edit legal and other documents
Maintain and organize files
Draft correspondence and other materials as requested; respond to written and verbal inquiries
Conduct research including Internet research
Answer telephones, route calls, and take messages
Schedule meetings and conference calls; prepare materials and take minutes
Handle travel arrangements for Project staff
Provide administrative support for manager review of applications for intern positions
Work jointly with interns and communicate routine and/or procedural guidance on projects assigned by managers
Handle special projects and other duties as assigned
Strong administrative, organizational, and time management skills
Strong writing and proofreading skills
Must be detail oriented
Excellent communication skills and telephone manner
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (i.e. Word, Excel, Outlook) and have experience with Internet research
Self-motivated with the ability to take initiative, manage a variety of tasks, and see projects through to completion

Salary for this position is $62,871. Excellent benefits package provided.
