AccuWeather has an exciting new opportunity to join our growing team as a Software Engineer. This role will assist in the design, implementation and enhancement of software processing real-time weather content used within AccuWeather’s suite of cutting edge consumer and enterprise products. Innovative new weather data and capabilities play a key role in AccuWeather’s award-winning applications used by millions of users all over the world each day to stay safe from dangerous weather, adjust their plans and optimize the performance of their business!
Who You Are
The Software Engineer works as a member of AccuWeather’s dedicated Research & Development team based in Wichita, KS.
What You Will Be Doing
• Will work closely with Senior Software Engineers to implement new and improved systems for data processing and display. • Build enterprise-quality software solutions using the latest methods. • Develop code that can easily be tested, deployed, updated, and monitored in production. • Enhance existing code base. • Analyze changes required to software in order to accommodate changes in incoming data formats and then successfully implement changes. • Participate in professional development related to new technologies and best practices. Recommend how these principles can be applied to innovate products and be used to increase development velocity. • Other duties as assigned.
Skills We Are Looking For
• BS in Computer Science or equivalent degree in Science, Technology or related field required • Proficiency in mathematics • Experience and/or proficiency in object oriented computer programming methodologies • Experience and/or proficiency in modern programming languages (C++, Java or others) • Experience and/or proficiency in Qt development strongly preferred • OpenGL development skills preferred • Linux operating system knowledge preferred • SQL knowledge preferred • Experience and/or proficiency in revision control software (Mercurial, Git, Subversion etc) is preferred. • Must be organized, detail-oriented and able to manage several projects at one time • Excellent communication and presentation skills • Interest and proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment under changing and strict deadlines • Ability to interpret and analyze a variety of complex meteorological, data situations
