Role Overview
Accordion is hiring a class of MBA summer associates to participate in a paid internship during Summer 2025. First Year MBA Students with an expected graduation date of Spring/Summer 2026 are encouraged to apply. Summer associates will be exposed to project work across the entire breadth of the Accordion business and will be aligned to one of four practice areas: Strategic Finance, Transformation, Turnaround & Restructuring, Transaction Execution Services.
This 9-week internship will take place in our New York, Chicago or Dallas offices. Ideal candidates should be local to the desired locations and will be required to be in-office 4 days a week, with the potential for some client travel.
Strategic Finance Practice
Accordion’s Strategic FP&A Practice helps Finance teams build capabilities to enhance performance visibility, planning activities, data analytics, and business partnering to enable and accelerate value creation. By combining extensive operational FP&A experience, data and technology skills, and a proprietary engagement model, we develop and implement tools and processes and deliver solutions that meet the rigor and pace required in a PE-backed environment.
Transformation Practice
Accordion’s Transformation Practice is comprised of a dedicated team providing strategic advice to support PE-backed portfolio companies on a wide range of transactions and events, including profitability improvements, finance process optimization, liquidity enhancements and digital transformation. We are doers and problem solvers – making sense of complexity and bolstering sponsors’ value creation theses.
Turnaround & Restructuring Practice
Accordion’s Turnaround & Restructuring Practice serves companies and their stakeholders across a wide spectrum of industries and sizes, with a focus on middle market. We provide clients with a team of seasoned professionals who have notable track records of creating value through both operational turnarounds and financial restructurings.
Transaction Execution Services Practice
Accordion’s Transaction Execution Services Practice focuses on the full spectrum of M&A execution: from financial modeling, valuation and analytical support to serving in a bolt-on corporate development capacity. In addition to analyzing the financial and operational data, we help quantify current and future value creation opportunities – enabling investors to easily understand the trapped value within the business.
Ideally, You Have:
- Demonstrated interest and pre-MBA experience in either Investment Banking, Consulting, Private Equity, Corporate Finance, and/or Accounting
- Experience or interest working in a client-facing role
- Proficiency in the Microsoft suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Strong ability to leverage Excel to manage, simplify, analyze and present large and complex datasets
- Strong financial modeling and corporate valuation skills
- Strong quantitative skills – are highly organized and pay extreme attention to detail
- Ability to work well under pressure and independently, yet understand when to ask for guidance
- Strong work ethic and a palpable desire to learn and grow
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ideally, You Are:
- Currently pursuing an MBA degree with an expected graduation date of Spring/Summer 2026
- A self-starter with a strong work ethic
- A leader of others; you lead by example
- A strong team player, able to work with team members across all levels
- Able to effectively communicate complex issues and solutions, and raise issues to senior team members when necessary
- Comfortable managing projects with multiple complex workstreams while also focused on your single workstream (you are managing and doing)
- Excited to be part of a growing team, with a focus on driving future growth
- Full of entrepreneurial spirit and comfortable in a fluid, flat organization
- Knowledgeable about the relationship between Private Equity sponsors and their portfolio companies
- Passionate about delivering exceptional client service
- Someone who enjoys mentoring others and doing meaningful work
- Willing to get your hands dirty in the details of a project while simultaneously seeing the whole picture
Salary: $83 per hour or $4,150 per week (9-week internship, 50-hour work week)
Actual compensation packages are determined by evaluating a wide array of factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, years and depth of experience, education, certifications, cost of labor and internal equity.
