About the job:

It is the responsibility of the IQA / Moderator to ensure effective and consistent assessment of all apprenticeship Standards, also to support assessors to achieve their full potential and deliver EPA, within their remit of responsibility, to an excellent standard. The Moderator will plan, conduct and record sampling activities, observations, and support sessions to ensure ongoing assessor development. They will contribute to the assessor performance review in a format depending on individual needs, feeding back on risk ratings, sampling, observations, achievements, challenges, and areas for development. The role also includes supporting and undertaking standardisation activities with direction from the Department Head to ensure EPA organisation compliance.


Day-to-day activities include:

• Sample Apprenticeship Standards within competency, in line with sampling plan, risk rating and moderation strategies.
• Lead on standardisation activities for all apprenticeship standards.
• Ensure all moderation documentation is completed fully, adhering to EPAO standards.
• Maintain the integrity of all Apprenticeship Standards by reporting any suspected malpractice or maladministration.
• Support and mentor new assessors in the delivery of assessments.
• Support assessors through moderation feedback, live observations, standardisation activities ensuring quality of assessment.
• Provide feedback and advice to assessors to develop their assessment practices and ensure that new assessor’s assessment decisions are countersigned and efficiently mentored.
• Be actively involved in the delivery of assessment in line with business needs (dependent on personal qualification levels, competencies, and experience).
• Contribute to the development of internal policies.

The ideal candidate:

You will have the ability to make informed decisions whilst working under pressure, have good presentation skills, and would have a personable characteristic with a proven track record of working with a diverse range of individuals. A good candidate would also be a highly self-motivated individual with a positive ‘can do’ attitude, with good time management, and a sustained track record in effective interdepartmental relationships.


Skills and Experience:

  • Occupational experience (minimum of three years).
    • Working practices within the specialist subject area.
    • Awareness of new technologies relevant to the digital apprenticeship Standards.
    • Significant assessor / examiner / interviewing / audit experience.
    • Competent in following processes, policies, and regulatory requirements.
    • Presenting and reporting data.
    • Identifying risks.
  • Relevant certification / qualifications for the role.
  • Ability to write and communicate reports.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to interpret assessment governance and guidance documentation.
  • Ability to follow processes and understand assessment requirements.
  • Provide a high quality of customer service to both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to identify risks and solutions.
  • Time management and prioritisation.
