Position Summary:

This position will be part of the ACADIA strategic sourcing team and lead the development of a corporate strategic sourcing strategy for all R&D categories. Responsibilities include leadership and operational management of R&D strategic sourcing activities ensuring the right capabilities, guidance, resources, and accountabilities are in place. Development and implementation of strategic sourcing plans for subcategories such as Clinical, Medical and Research.This position leads the identification, assessment, selection, negotiation, execution of contracts and relationship with vendors supporting ACADIA R&D teams, and will contribute to corporate sourcing policies, best-practices, compliance reporting and financial tracking. The role requires working closely with multiple internal and external partners from Clinical Ops and Research, Regulatory Affairs, Pharmacovigilance and Safety, Biometrics and other functions such as Commercial and Manufacturing to facilitate and optimize the strategic sourcing process. The individual will also be responsible to improve insight into new emerging vendor capabilities and external sourcing practices in R&D categories.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the subject matter expert to develop, optimize, and maintain the strategic and operational infrastructure for R&D sourcing
  • Strong tracking record of identifying saving opportunities and executing sourcing projects
  • Being proactive to assess and benchmark top spend vendor contracts and optimize the vendor base
  • Establish strong partnership with R&D stakeholders to manage top vendors such as CROs and provide insights in bringing new vendors as needed through industry benchmarking or previous experience
  • Promote the use of strategic sourcing techniques such as vendor spend analysis, prepare and implement advanced negotiation strategies, optimizing both cost and service
  • Work closely with the rest of the sourcing team to align strategic sourcing strategy, goals, and implementation approaches. Contribute to the implementation of corporate sourcing policy
  • Support R&D sourcing activities (RFI/RFP, contract negotiations, etc.) with a focus on cost savings and efficiency. Leads cross-functional team to execute sourcing projects
  • Perform risk management for vendor contracts and agreements. Work with legal, finance and other functions to review and have input to R&D vendor contracts and documentation
  • Collaborate with financial planning team on forecasting, budgeting, and saving reporting
  • Influence a companywide culture of strategic sourcing and cost consciousness


  • BS/BA or equivalent combination of relevant education, Masters preferred
  • Progressive experience with at least 8 years of vendor, contracts and budgeting administration; experience in biotech or pharmaceuticals required
  • Strong data analysis skill and financial reporting capabilities
  • Extensive experience in managing cross-functional teams
  • Strong negotiation, influencing, and conflict resolution skills

Key candidate qualities:

  • Strong category knowledge of R&D categories and negotiation experience with CROs
  • Experience in leveraging R&D spend evaluating total company vendor spend (Med Affairs, Commercial, etc.), working with other sourcing leads
  • Ability to multi-task and have an excellent attention to detail to ensure the most efficient and cost-effective contract solutions are achieved
  • Knowledge of sourcing and procurement techniques, as well as understanding of current state of market
  • Experience in change management within complex organizations
  • Strong negotiation, influencing, and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to interpret and comprehend contract documentation
  • Good knowledge of supplier or third party management software
  • Available for up to 20% domestic or international travel

Erroneous decisions will have a serious impact on the overall success of functional area and may impact overall company operations.
