What We’re Looking For:

This role will be responsible for implementing and maintaining Data Infrastructure Systems within 2U Short Courses as well cases where collaboration with the other business verticals will be required. These systems include Master Data Management, Data Virtualization, Data Visualization and Data Warehousing, as well as all related data pipelines. The team member will provide guidance to Junior and Intermediate level Data Engineers. This person should be a highly skilled and experienced data professional. The candidate should be driven and keen to learn new things. This role will drive Technical and Infrastructure innovation within the Data Systems Team and should be able to execute highly technical work, efficiently and within time constraints.

Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To:

  • Maintain all Data Infrastructure Systems
    • Overall maintenance of systems
    • After hours support (standby) on a rotational basis
  • Analyze requirements defined by business stakeholders in order to action point 3
  • Implement enhancements and new features across the following Data Systems:
    • Enterprise Data Warehouse
    • Reporting Infrastructure
    • ETL Landscape
    • Data Virtualization Platform
    • Master Data Management
  • Perform research (Innovate) and make possible recommendations on the following Data Systems:
    • Enterprise Data Warehouse
    • Reporting Infrastructure
    • ETL Landscape
    • Data Virtualization Platform
    • Master Data Management
  • Ensure Data Quality and Data Governance is in place across the whole Data Infrastructure
  • Upskill across all of the technologies at 2U Cape Town
  • Provide guidance to Data Engineers and Junior Data Engineers
  • Stakeholder management throughout all business departments
  • Improve and help streamline processes within the Data Systems team

Things That Should Be In Your Background:

  • 7+ years experience in the Data industry
  • Specific qualifications or technical skills
    • A degree in Computer Science/Information Systems/Engineering preferred
    • Expert  in SQL to then implement where needed in both the Data Virtualization and Data Warehousing systems
    • PostgreSQL / MS SQL / MySQL / Python / R / Redshift experience
    • Experience in database design and database management
    • Experience using data analysis and business intelligence tools (e.g Tableau, PowerBI, Qlik)
    • A sound understanding of data management principles including data quality assurance and data governance
    • Experience in source code and version control systems
    • Experience in master data management and the implementation and maintenance thereof
    • Experience in the shipment of data using various methods such as ETL
    • Experience in the implementation of data visualisation systems/technologies preferable
    • Experience using services within the AWS ecosystem (e.g, RDS, EC2, Redshift, DMS)
