What We’re Looking For:

2U is looking for an experienced web development subject matter expert to temporarily join our Enterprise team for an exciting curriculum development project. This part-time role would be perfect for someone with strong expertise in back-end development and relevant professional experience.

You’ll work remotely with curriculum and QA engineers, instructional designers, and editorial partners to write technical curriculum that is highly instructive, engaging, and teachable while resulting in expected learning outcomes for students. The ideal candidate will have collaborated on highly complex projects with flexibly-resourced teams and have the ability to adapt quickly to a fast pace and changing requirements. You’re always driving for great quality, but you also know when to ship a product, working iteratively to continue improving based on feedback.

Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To:

  • Create new curriculum on Spring Boot, data stores, REST APIs, and other topics to be determined for special projects
  • Create and/or polish project ideas, challenges, and homework assignments to enable students to master key concepts and learning objectives
  • Create and/or assess and iterate on existing curricular content, such as slideshows, lesson plans, activities, challenges, homework, and resources
  • Test and evaluate content, code, and other learning materials by identifying and prioritizing issues for the curriculum team to address
  • Plan, review, and report on sprint progress and accomplishments
  • Conceive of and collaborate on new ideas to enhance student learning

Things That Should Be In Your Background:

  • Minimum 4 years relevant Java development industry experience
  • Applied experience in the following skills as they relate to Java development
    • Spring Boot and the Spring Framework
    • SQL
    • NoSQL
    • Object-oriented programming
    • Multi-threading
    • Concurrent programming
    • Amazon SQS and SNS
    • Systems design
    • Horizontal scaling
    • Unit testing
    • Relational modeling
  • Experience developing and writing instructional and/or technical content
  • Ability to communicate complex topics in a manner that can be clearly understood by beginners

Other Attributes That Will Help You In This Role:

  • Applied experience in systems design, horizontal scaling, SQS and SNS
  • Experience teaching programming or other relevant technical topics
  • Experience with online or asynchronous learning
  • Exceptional writing, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Collaborating remotely with a distributed team
  • Working with an Agile/Scrum team
