Located in Vancouver, BC, 2K Sports Lab is a small collective being formed within 2K Games that is driving the research and development of future sports interactive entertainment programs. Within this group, speculative work will be done on future sports games with an eye towards taking the magic of 2K’s publishing and development expertise and applying them to future opportunities.

What We Need

As a Principal Concept Artist at 2k Sports Lab, you'll have a meaningful role in crafting the visual direction for the project. You are a strong artist with excellent conceptual art skills and sensibilities. You will be directly interacting with creative leaders and the development team to set the look and feel for our project. You will work proactively with others in all visual art teams to help provide conceptual solutions that support gameplay, narrative, and art direction needs. We love games that play well and look outstanding; together we will set the stage for a rich and spectacular world filled with diverse characters and environments.

What You’ll Do

  • Collaborate closely with artists and key collaborators to conceptualize, design, iterate on a range of assets to bring our game to life.
  • Conceptualize designs to best represent the game design intent that supports the overall vision for the game.
  • Draw to style and in multiple views with a heavy emphasis on environment and graphic design. Other responsibilities may include characters, props, storyboards, and UI.
  • Develop environment designs with artistic sensibilities that also balances game design, narrative, and technical boundaries.
  • Prioritize, plan, organize, and complete conceptual art output, working with development partners, game designer(s), and other visual art departments to best deliver and implement the project's creative vision.
  • Concept, iterate, and produce visual assets for all stages of development from pre-viz sketches and paintings to polished marketing materials.
  • Work with the art department to establish and craft style guides that speak to the art direction and provide clear instructional guides for the art team to use as resources.
  • Mentor and help fellow artists grow artistically and professionally.
  • Improve on personal and professional knowledge.

What Will Make You a Great Fit:

  • 10+ years of experience working in the creative field - games, film, or animation industry
  • An educational background in design/art that serves as a foundation for your work.
  • Experience/skill in designing and producing art outside of environments (characters, props, weapons, vehicles, etc.).
  • Ability to showcase polished illustrations and clearly demonstrate strong drawing and painting abilities that translate well into 3D models.
  • Knowledge in 3D software and some experience in Unreal Engine

The pay range for this position in British Columbia at the start of employment is expected to be between CAD $114,100 and CAD $165,720 per year. However, actual pay offered is based on market location and may vary further depending on individualized factors for job candidates, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. If hired, the company reserves the right to modify base pay (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
