Founded in 2005, 2K Games is a global video game company, publishing titles developed by some of the most influential game development studios in the world. 2K publishes titles in today’s most popular gaming genres, including sports, shooters, action, role-playing, strategy, casual, and family entertainment. Located in Vancouver, BC, 2K Sports Lab is a small collective being formed within 2K Games that is driving the research and development of future sports interactive entertainment programs. Within this group, speculative work will be done on future sports games with an eye towards taking the magic of 2K’s publishing and development expertise and applying them to future opportunities.

What We Need:

Our studio is looking for an experienced Lead Online Engineer who sets a high quality bar, and has a passion for building online systems for sports simulation games. In this role, you will be both leading others and also working hands on. You will collaborate with Engineers from other areas, Designers and Producers to define and build the online architecture for the next massive sports franchise in our industry!

What You Will Do:

• Senior role as an Individual Contributor, Leader of the Online team, and Mentor for online engineers.
• Collaborate closely with Designers and Engineers to architect and deliver multiplayer and social sports game experiences.
• Collaborate with other game area teams to ensure online solutions are robust, secure, reliable and performant.
• Design and direct technical designs for Online Systems and Subsystems, Features, Architecture and Tools.
• Responsible for ensuring the online team produces high quality code and for driving code reviews.
• Work closely with Engineers and designers to execute on your vision.
• Evaluate progress and game quality and partner with Production to formulate and revise plans to drive execution.
• Responsible for owning the efficiency, scalability and maintainability of online services built.
• Collaborate with the QA team to drive testing of Online features of our game.
• Have and share opinions of the broader game experience.
• Contribute to positive morale and a healthy team culture.

Who We Think Will Be A Great Fit:

• Bachelor's degree and 10+ years of related experience building and delivering high quality online experiences for games.
• Shipped at least two AAA titles
• Experience establishing online architecture needed for sports games, and mentoring others.
• Experience working with cross discipline engineering and design teams and a strong collaborator.
• Passion for making games.
• Experience using development tools for things like tuning, and debugging problems in the game such as desyncs and disconnects.
• Has a willingness to share opinions freely, and an openness to hear other opinions to consider what is best for the game.
• Be a hands-on person leading the Online team.

Preferred qualifications

• Passionate about playing and/or watching sports.
• Experience in Unreal Engine is a plus.
• Passion for video games (not just ours!)

The pay range for this position in British Columbia, Canada at the start of employment is expected to be between 132,000 and 195,000 CAD per Year. However, base pay offered is based on market location, and may vary further depending on individualized factors for job candidates, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to those same considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a bonus and/or equity awards, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an 'at-will position' and the company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
