We're looking for an experienced (and ideally Tumblr-obsessed) engineer with the ability to make MySQL perform at scale and who understands the trade-offs that make it possible.

What You'll Do:

  • Design, build, and maintain databases used by millions of users every day
  • Manage the hundreds of servers and instances that make up our existing infrastructure
  • Automate away problems using tools such as Puppet and Jetpants
  • Improve monitoring of our systems
  • Ongoing benchmarking in support of data-driven decision making
  • Optimize query latency and caching patterns for high volume and density databases
  • Build systems that integrate one of the largest MySQL installations on the web with a platform that is viewed millions of times a day

What We're Looking For:

  • A database engineer with several years of experience managing large MySQL/InnoDB installations on Linux
  • Scripting expertise with Ruby, Python, etc.
  • Strong skill in data modeling, SQL, and how to make tradeoffs between performance and storage
  • Building out the tooling and automation that provides the leverage to manage many databases to few engineers
