Rockstar North are looking for a talented associate writer to produce in game copy that reflects the many distinctive voices of the characters and entities that populate our vast, thriving multimedia worlds. This is a full-time, permanent and in-office position based in Rockstar’s state-of-the-art game development studio in Edinburgh, Scotland.
WHAT WE DO
- The Rockstar Games Writing team works closely with various departments across studios in developing narratives, characters, dialogue, in-game media, world-building interactions, and world-building discoveries.
- We work to push the limits of creating compelling and unique experiences that resonate with a global audience.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Write a variety of player and character facing, world-building copy that meets the needs of the brief, the voice of the speaker, and the tone of the game.
- Identify, grasp, and inhabit the voice of the character, business, or entity pertaining to the copy.
- Collaborate with key stakeholders from Writing, Design, Art, In Game Media, and more to understand the technical requirements and creative intent of the copy.
- Proactively review and iterate copy with requesters and senior writers, seeing it through to completion.
- Understand and match the tone of our games and the American idiom.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in English, Creative Writing, or related discipline; or equivalent professional experience.
- Two years’ experience of creative writing in a professional context.
- Knowledge of MS Office.
- Experience playing and an understanding of our games.
SKILLS
- Ability to write a high volume of copy quickly and efficiently on deadline, while maintaining quality and consistency.
- A highly disciplined, organised, and collaborative approach to your work.
- Ability to grasp high-level tonal concepts and materialize them into succinct copy that meets the requirements of the brief.
- Enthusiastically respond to feedback, making requested changes quickly and thoroughly.
PLUSES

- Experience working within creative industries – video games, film, television, music.
- Experience in journalism.
- Experience in comedy writing.
