Senior SQL Database Administrator

This job is for a Senior-level SQL Server DBA providing operational database management tasks for select customers. The DBA will be self-sufficient in terms of their abilities to exceed customer expectations while being part of a team to lend support and assistance when needed.

Database support will include day-to-day duties for proper database maintenance along with proactive measures to maximize the database security, availability and performance.

This job will provide the flexibility to work from a home office a majority of the time with occasional visits to customer locations.

Job includes aspects of 24x7 support in conjunction with other team members.

Technical Skill Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5 years of SQL Server Production DBA experience, or minimum three years SQL Server Production DBA experience and equivalent education/certification as a SQL Server DBA in SQL server 2016 or above.
  • Able to plan and implement an HA/DR solution using Clustering, Log Shipping, Availability Groups, Mirroring, Replication, or other solutions
  • Able to recommend, implement, and monitor backup/restore solutions to meet customer SLAs and recommend SLAs where they don’t exist
  • Able to implement and support housekeeping procedures such as backups, integrity checking, index maintenance
  • Able to tune SQL Server databases. This includes the use of T-SQL, Profiler/Extended Events, Indexing, Statistics, Query Plan Analysis, Query Store.
  • Able to read, write, and troubleshoot TSQL to support production environments
  • Able to provide Database Administration for SQL Server installations including capacity planning, installing, upgrading, configuration and patching, and all functions to provide high availability, high performance, and high security.
  • Working and practical knowledge of table partitioning and archiving mechanisms.
  • Demonstrated Production Database Administration experience in Azure (preferred) or AWS including ability to: Implement a secure environment, Monitor and optimize operational resources, Optimize query performance, Perform automation of tasks using automation, Plan and implement a High Availability and Disaster Recovery (HADR) environment, Perform administration by using T-SQL
  • Able to install and administer the MS BI Stack (SSRS, SSAS, SSIS) in a production environment

Technical Skill Preferences:

  • Additional experience in SQL Server Development DBA
  • Experience with Developing for the Microsoft BI Stack (SSIS, SSRS, SSAS) and/or PowerBI
  • Experience with Server admin, network, and virtualization
  • Ability to produce and maintenance of high-quality documentation
  • Ability to Migrate data to/from multiple data sources using SSIS, PowerShell, or similar tools meeting customer SLAs

 

Professional and Soft Skill Requirements:

  • Must be effective in a virtual team working interdependently while managing time and priorities in a 24x7 DBA remote support environment.
  • Must possess strong customer service and interpersonal skills. Previous consulting experience is a plus.
  • Must be effective in a fast-paced work environment serving as first contact with customers who have typical and urgent requests and problems.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States
  • Must demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills to generate requirements from communication with customer; and to document problems/resolutions
  • Main Street DBAs is dedicated to employing ITIL practices.
    • While not a requirement, candidates who have interfaced with Incident and Problem Management including Root Cause Analysis, Change Management, and Release Management are preferred and tend to be more successful.
  • Must be able to triage urgent problems in the absence of standard operating procedures based on problem solving skills, database knowledge, and prior depth of experience
