Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent
  • 8 or more years engineering experience with open source, saas applications
  • 2 or more years management experience, coaching, and serving as a technical leader of a small team(s) of 5 or more engineers
  • Experience hiring, coaching and mentoring engineers
  • Experience with cloud deployment of web applications and services in Google Cloud Platform or Amazon Web Services
  • Experience collaborating with Product Manager and Program Manager prioritize and deliver features
Additional Details
  • This position is based out of our office in the Belltown neighborhood of Seattle, WA (hybrid work schedule). 
  • The estimated compensation for this position is $190,000 - $210,000 per year, based on experience and qualifications. In addition, this position is eligible for an annual bonus and an equity grant.
Duties and Responsibilities

The Engineering Manager is committed to fostering continuous improvement and ensuring adherence to company values.   • Team effectiveness and impact
    • Ensure the team is equipped to handle the workload by considering adjustments such as hiring, restructuring, identifying relevant training and growth plans, and collaborating with PMs and TPMs to redistribute tasks effectively.
    • Support the team to be successful in their work assignments by clarifying priorities, protecting the team from unnecessary context switches, identifying and managing risks to timelines or quality, avoiding bottlenecks, and enforcing accountability and ownership among all team members while fostering a sense of urgency.
    • Collaborate with other managers to synchronize project timelines and assignments, and coordinate with others to ensure alignment across teams.
    • Facilitate discussions on goals and product requests to ensure team members understand their impact and the value provided by the team.
    • Work closely with TPMs to monitor departmental goals, communicate progress to the team, and reinforce goals with relevant processes.
    • Hold comprehensive knowledge of all team activities.
    • Work with the team to improve technologies, tools, practices and prioritize automation of repetitive manual work.
    • Collect feedback on processes, gather metrics, and adapt processes accordingly.
    • Support the organization's success by setting the vision and tone for departmental meetings and processes. Identify and address issues with existing meetings and processes, and collaborate with others to evolve them.

    • Support team members in their growth areas, including both short-term and long-term goals.
    • Provide assistance in overcoming challenges and offer consistent and impactful feedback.
    • Coach, mentor, and connect team members with appropriate resources for additional support and mentoring.
    • Ensure that each individual understands their role clearly and feels supported and capable of completing their tasks and assignments in the most effective manner possible.
    • Collect feedback on team members' performance and share it with them constructively.
    • Be available to address individual urgent needs.
  • Self contributions
    • Provide guidance and structure for all on-call activities.
    • Contribute code to tasks that are not critical to the project's path.
    • Engage in project briefs, design reviews, and TDD reviews, providing valuable feedback.
    • Be available to collaborate and support technical design and tackle technical challenges.
    • Provide technical advice and contribute to technical decisions affecting other engineering teams within the organization.
    • Assist in prioritizing technical issues and other tasks during discussions with team leads, PMs, and engineering managers.
    • Identify technical debt and work with the teams, PMs and TPMs to reduce or resolve it.
    • Demonstrates understanding of customers and their product usage, leveraging this empathy to guide decision-making.
    • Approach all engineering work with a focus on security, reliability, and confidentiality.
    • Cultivate effective working relationships with colleagues throughout the company.
    • Communicate effectively with all stakeholders.
    • Apply knowledge of business and the industry to advance the organization’s strategic imperatives.
    • Anticipate and balance the needs of multiple stakeholders.
