Bridge Academy of Southwest Michigan (BASWM) is a 9th -12th public school academy, offering a no-nonsense approach to graduation attainment, wrap around services and meaningful career exploration opportunities. WHAT WE EXPECT FROM YOU:

The Director of Student Success will lead our effort to foster a positive school culture and promote a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment for all members of our school community. The Director of Student Success is responsible for daily operation of the building and will serve as the lead administrator in the School Leader’s absence. The Director of Student Success will be highly motivated and able to work with high school students and their families. This role is responsible for daily onsite and online operations, student behavior and management of the school day. This leader will cultivate a positive, inclusive, and orderly day-to-day operations for the school. They will lead and manage the student success team responsible for performance measures such as employment, follow up services, supportive services, participant data collection and coordination with MiWorks! and community partnerships. This individual will be highly organized, have excellent communication skills and able to balance multiple responsibilities at once. The Director will play a pivotal role in the shaping of overall culture of the school building, daily operations, implement strategies to support students’ social emotional development, ensure our school values are upheld and support students to ensure life success.

Specific job focuses will include:

  • Develop and Implement Culture-building Initiatives: Design and implement programs, events, and activities that promote school culture, foster a sense of belonging, and celebrate diversity and inclusion. Work with academic team to coordinate services to improve student outcomes.
  • Behavior Management and Discipline: Supported by the School Leader, develop and enforce consistent, fair, and effective and proactive behavior management, policies and procedures that support a positive and respectful learning environment. Provide guidance and support to staff in implementing these policies.
  • Social-emotional Learning Curriculum: Collaborate with School Leader and staff to integrate SEL (Social Emotional Learning) principles and practices into the school culture and daily routines.  Develop and facilitate professional development opportunities for staff on SEL strategies.
  • Student Support Services Program Management: Oversee the delivery of comprehensive support services for students, including counseling, mentoring and interventions for students experiencing social, emotional, or behavioral challenges, using Job’s for Michigan’s Graduates curriculum and delivery model. Manage success team staff to deliver on these metrics to support student learning and post-secondary options. This will include support with transportation, food services and other basic needs.
  • Family and Community Engagement: In conjunction with School Leader, foster strong partnerships with families, community organizations, and local stakeholders to support student success and enhance the overall school culture. Assist in the planning of family engagement events and workshops.
  • Crisis Intervention and Response: Assist to develop and implement protocols for crisis intervention and response, including supporting students and staff in times of a crisis or emergency. Work with local agencies to enhance procedures.
  • Data Analysis and Reporting: Collect, analyze, and report data related to school climate, discipline, attendance, and student behavior. Use data to identify trends, areas for improvement, and effective strategies for promoting a positive school climate. This will be done in partnership with the school Leader.
  • Assist in state and county requirements for school operation including pupil count periods, state testing, local testing, and special events such as graduation, family engagement events and outreach.
  • Other duties may include representing the school and/or School Leader at events and meetings, serving on various committees.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in education or related field.
  • Michigan School Administrator Certificate preferred.
  • Demonstrated success as an educator, school leadership role and/or school administrator.
  • Experience with at-risk student population.
  • Ability to analyze course of action and have the authority to make independent decisions on matters of significance.
  • Experienced in facilitating meetings, planning, program budgets, and project reporting.
  • Skills in human relations, leadership, supervision, and motivational techniques.
  • Ability to establish the appropriate boundaries while developing and nurturing supportive relationships with students.
  • Well-organized, high-energy, inspirational, creative thinker, and a flexible team player with excellent administrative and organizational skills.
  • Robust experience dealing with opportunity youth, barriered populations and a diverse learning environment.
  • Understanding of trauma-informed initiatives, community resilience model and other relevant coping resources that support student success
  • Experienced in facilitating meetings, planning, program budgets, and project reporting.
  • Verbal and written communication skills.
  • Evidence to support community involvement and leadership.
  • Compassion regarding issues facing young people who have not completed high school and a deep respect for the ideas and intelligence of young adults.
  • Criminal records clearance.
  • Unprofessional conduct clearance.
